FestungsLeuchten on fortress Ehrenbreitstein
For kicking-off the summer season 2016 the General Directorate Cultural Heritage Rheinland-Pfalz organizes an elaborate light art spectacle over fourteen evenings for the fourth time.
- from Sunday, 20th March 2016
- to Saturday, 02nd April 2016.
In the evening of 20th March an event with the „FestungsLeuchten“ starts that many wistfully waited for since last spring. More than 35.000 people were whisked away by breathtaking light and sound installations into a world of imagination and emotions in 2015. Likewise, visitors can look forward to a lot of new staging this year. „This will be spectacular and again something completely different“, art director Richard Röhrhoff states.
In a scenic course visitors will be led through the impressive fortress and its history. A lot of venues invite to rest, provide enough space to marvel, participate, dream and dance. Highlights in this year are the video mapping „3000 years fortified village“, which takes visitors on a brilliant journey, and an imposing light show in the retreated moats. „This year we tried to connect to this place even stronger. This will be the pure and unique fortress perfectness“, says Röhrhoff. To breath new life into everything the students of Intermedial Design of University of Trier bring the landmark of their city, the Porta Nigra, as an installation. „We invite everyone to join us in playing: attack and defense of the Porta“, Professor Linda Breitlauch says. A beautiful die away of the evening will be the ride back with the cable car Koblenz, which will ride daily while „FestungsLeuchten“ from 20th March to 2nd April.
The restaurant Casino on the upper castle yard, beer gardens and the domed halls are opened with a range of culinary offerings.
The exhibition centers of fortress Ehrenbreitstein close at 6pm in these days of FestungsLeuchten as usual.
FestungsLeuchten does not cost additional entrance. Just the usual entrance or cable car combi tickets are valid. Owners of the combi cards or fortress season tickets have free entry. Travel is recommended by cable car Koblenz, as parking space is limited.
