An expedition organised by the Directorate for Castles, Palaces and Heritage Sites at the Ehrenbreitstein fortress in Koblenz.
A century after the outbreak of the First World War, two photographers, the French Emmanuel Berry and the German Martin Blume visited the battlesfields of Verdun, to visualize this embattled place.
Together, they present the results of their quest for traces of the battle. With their empathic and at the same time detached view they captured their impressions of the remains and monuments. Photographs of the landscape stand in contrast to detailed images of barbed wire or grenade splinters.
Expedition period: 7 July to 26 October 2014
Visiting hours: daily from 10.00 am - 06.00 pm
Expedition site: Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, Koblenz
